In our current society, we’ve pledged alliance to a set of principles and rules that define part of our culture and behavior.
Yesterday I was walking through a mall with a tray in my hands, taking a sandwich for a walk, expecting to see a free spot where I could stop and eat my meal. After walking around for a few minutes, I rejoyced, seeing a free spot on a counter.
I got there, and, while standing up, started to eat the sandwich when it hit me.
This isn’t right…
Standing up, eating a fast food meal, as fast as I could…why? I wasn’t even in a hurry!
The picture of my grandad came to mind.
How would he react if I told him what I was doing? When did our society change in such a way that allowed for people to eat standing up, as fast as they could, for no specific reason? And we brought this reality in just a few years! My grandad (he’s very much alive) would never even dream of doing such a thing.
Part of our evolution as Humans, part of the path to a Modern Golden Age, starts with questioning these principles.
Of course, there are deeper ones than “eat your food while standing up”. However, the true transformation starts in our day-to-day. These seemingly “small, useless things” are actually rabbit holes to the underlying beliefs and values that dictate human behavior in the western world.
“Every adventure requires a first step.”
Today, be brave enough to explore what surrounds you. To understand the deeper layer of meaning and how it influences everything around you.
Then make a decision to either leave it or change it.
