High School was a fantastic period in my life.
I learned so much, I had so many different experiences…It was amazing.
High School was also a terrible period in my life.
I struggled through a bunch of different things…It was hard.
But there was a connection between those 2 things: Music.
Music allowed me to push through the pain and embrace life's joyful nature.
Yesterday I saw 2 of the bands that accompanied me in this process: A Day to Remember and Bring me the Horizon.
In the last 2 songs of ADTR, I got emotional. As I sang as loud as my lungs and throat could stand, I felt part of that teenage pain just dissolve into the music.
Through lyrics like:
If you can wait 'til I get home
Then I swear to you that we can make this last
or
I hate this town, it's so washed up
And all my friends don't give a fuck
They'll tell me that it's just bad luck
When will I find where I fit in?
my 16yo found freedom and long-lasting happiness. It was a cathartic moment that I’d been waiting for for a long time (this was their first concert in Portugal).
I thought I was done with emotional rollercoasters until a specific song by the next band, Bring me the Horizon started.
It’s called “Drown” and they closed the set with it.
There was a particular moment where after jumping, screaming, singing, and headbanging, I found myself with tears in my eyes. I found myself inundated by the blessedness of being alive, at that moment, experiencing thousands of people singing in unison, with the person I love the most by my side.
Everyone was aligned.
All of us wanted the same thing: to be part of that chorus. It didn’t matter if you were singing in tune, out of it, screaming, whispering…At that moment, in that last chorus, the venue was moving, breathing and acting like 1 single element.
It was beauty in action.
And I was part of it.
Seeking these experiences, is, definitely, a way to bring a Modern Golden Age and praise Métis.
I have a fire within me to act upon that beauty and experience.
Let’s build.
The unity at the concert sounds like a truly spiritual experience!
