In the 50s, the US Military did some research in order to develop a model that would allow their soldiers to learn better and faster. The final result was a model still used in a lot of learning experiences today: ADDIE.
ADDIE is not perfect, especially in our current fast-paced world where change is quick and constant. Yet, there are a lot of educators, trainers, and teachers that could improve their experiences merely by following this structure.
So, here’s what it stands for:
Analyse: start by understanding if whatever you want to teach actually resonates with your students;
Design: create an overall structure around your learning experience, taking into account the different ideas and emotional states you want to share;
Develop: analyze each concept and idea and develop exercises that consolidate your student’s learning;
Implement: put it into practice, preferably, with the flexibility to adjust in real-time, based on students’ feedback;
Evaluate: the students, sure, but also yourself and the overall learning experience.
Once again, education is the key to a Modern Golden Age, and designing better learning experiences is, clearly, a path to get there.
So let’s work on that.
